Nano selenium (selenium nanoparticles) is a zero-valent form of selenium with particle sizes typically ranging from 5 to 200 nm. Compared to traditional inorganic (selenite, selenate) and organic (selenomethionine) selenium forms, nano selenium exhibits lower toxicity and higher biological activity. It acts primarily as a potent antioxidant and immunomodulator by serving as a critical cofactor for selenoproteins, including glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), which protect cells from oxidative damage. In the context of condyloma acuminatum, oral nano selenium is being investigated as an adjuvant therapy to CO2 laser treatment to enhance the host's antiviral immune response against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and reduce the risk of lesion recurrence.
