Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nano selenium capsules are an oral formulation of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) being evaluated as an adjunctive therapy for acute ischemic stroke. Developed by Zhuhai People's Hospital, the treatment is intended to be used in combination with vascular recanalization therapy to enhance functional recovery. The mechanism of action centers on the reduction of oxidative stress and the modulation of selenoenzyme expression, which helps protect neural tissue from ischemia-reperfusion injury. Selenium nanoparticles are utilized for their improved bioavailability and reduced toxicity compared to traditional inorganic selenium salts.
