Nano-silver nitrate refers to a formulation in which silver exists as nanoparticles (nanosilver) combined or stabilized with nitrate ions. Nanosilver exhibits unique physicochemical properties due to its small size and large surface area, leading to enhanced antimicrobial activity compared to bulk silver or ionic silver compounds. The mechanism of action involves the release of silver ions (Ag+) from the nanoparticle surface under redox conditions, which disrupts microbial cell membranes, generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), and interferes with cellular proteins and DNA. Nano-silver formulations are being explored for their broad-spectrum antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, and anticancer activities[1][5][8]. They are used in medical device coatings, wound dressings, drug delivery systems, diagnostic tools, and as adjuncts in cancer therapy[5][6][8]. The addition of the "nitrate" component may refer either to stabilization during synthesis or a specific formulation; however, most literature focuses on nanosilver itself rather than a distinct "nano-silver nitrate" pharmaceutical product.
