Overview

NanoAb Omicron is a potent, broad-spectrum nanobody (single-domain antibody) specifically engineered to neutralize the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant and its various sublineages. Developed by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh, this therapeutic candidate targets the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the viral spike protein. Unlike traditional monoclonal antibodies, NanoAb Omicron is significantly smaller and more stable, which facilitates its delivery via inhalation or intranasal spray directly to the respiratory tract—the primary site of infection. The nanobody works by binding to a highly conserved epitope on the RBD, effectively blocking the interaction between the virus and the human ACE2 receptor, thereby preventing viral entry into host cells. Its high stability and potency against multiple variants make it a promising candidate for both the treatment and prevention of COVID-19, particularly in outpatient settings.
