Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of a nanocrystalline formulation of megestrol acetate and the 5-HT3 receptor antagonist ondansetron. Megestrol acetate is a synthetic progestin that, in its nanocrystalline form, exhibits improved bioavailability and is traditionally used to treat anorexia and cachexia. In this clinical study led by Aiping Zhou, it is being evaluated for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma receiving moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (CAPOX plus PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors). Ondansetron is a standard antiemetic that works by blocking serotonin receptors in the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system to inhibit the vomiting reflex.
