Nanoencapsulated sodium fluoride mouthwash is an experimental dental treatment developed by the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). It utilizes a controlled-release system (F-CSL) to deliver fluoride ions to the oral cavity over an extended period. This technology is designed to treat white spot lesions, which are early signs of dental caries, by enhancing the remineralization of tooth enamel. By maintaining higher levels of bioavailable fluoride in the saliva and dental biofilm compared to conventional mouthwashes, it promotes the formation of fluorapatite, thereby increasing the enamel's resistance to acid-induced demineralization. The formulation is specifically being evaluated in children and adolescents to improve the efficacy of non-invasive caries management.
