Overview

nanoFenretinide, also known as ST-001, is a novel phospholipid suspension of nanoparticle-sized fenretinide, a synthetic retinoid. This formulation was developed to overcome the low bioavailability and dose-limiting toxicities associated with previous fenretinide formulations. It demonstrates anticancer activity by repressing the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, activating apoptotic, autophagic, and DNA damage signals, and inducing the production of dihydroceramide. Additionally, nanoFenretinide has been shown to increase the expression of the tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen GD2 in neuroblastoma cells, thereby enhancing their sensitivity to anti-GD2 antibody therapies.
