NanoGroup's blood substitute is an acellular perfluorocarbon (PFC)-based nanoemulsion designed to function as a synthetic oxygen carrier. Developed by the Polish nanotechnology company NanoGroup S.A. in collaboration with its subsidiary NanoSanguis, the product consists of perfluorocarbon nanoparticles stabilized with biocompatible surfactants in a buffering solution. It is designed to mimic the respiratory gas transport function of red blood cells by transporting oxygen to tissues and removing carbon dioxide while maintaining physiological pH, osmotic, and oncotic pressure. The product is intended for intravenous administration in emergency medicine, battlefield trauma, and other scenarios involving acute blood loss where donor blood is unavailable or contraindicated.
