Overview
**nanoHYP** is an Aphios preclinical antiviral nanopharmaceutical being developed for HIV infection. It is a hypericin-based photosensitive nanoformulation paired with a chemiluminescent substrate intended to generate an internal molecular light source, thereby photoactivating the photosensitizer and producing light-dependent virucidal inactivation of HIV. Aphios reports that the approach also uses endogenous enzyme-generated chemiluminescence, including alkaline phosphatase activity, to overcome the lack of external light within the body.
