Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nanoinsulin PharmFilm is an investigational, nanoformulated insulin product delivered via MonoSol Rx’s PharmFilm mucoadhesive oral film technology for transbuccal administration in diabetes. It consists of insulin bound to Midatech’s biocompatible nanoparticles and incorporated into a rapidly dissolving film placed on the inside of the cheek, enabling absorption of monomeric insulin across the buccal mucosa into the systemic circulation and offering a non-invasive, “truly oral” alternative to injectable insulin for prandial glucose control.[3] Preclinical studies demonstrated delivery of bioactive insulin and glucose lowering in multiple animal models, and the program led to a joint venture (MidaSol Therapeutics) to advance the product clinically as a novel mealtime insulin option.[3]
