Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nanoparticle Epirubicin is a novel formulation of the anthracycline chemotherapeutic agent epirubicin, in which the drug is encapsulated or conjugated within polymeric nanoparticles or micelles. This nanoformulation aims to enhance tumor targeting and reduce systemic toxicity by improving pharmacokinetics and enabling controlled release of epirubicin at the tumor site. The mechanism of action remains that of conventional epirubicin: intercalation into DNA, inhibition of topoisomerase II, stabilization of the topoisomerase II-DNA complex leading to DNA strand breaks, and generation of cytotoxic free radicals. Nanoparticle Epirubicin (notably as NC-6300) has been investigated in clinical trials for advanced solid tumors and soft tissue sarcoma, including angiosarcoma. Preclinical studies have also explored its use in ovarian cancer models[1][2][4][7][8].
