NanoPRP gel is an experimental biological therapeutic formulation consisting of nano-sized platelet vesicles (nPVs) incorporated into a gel matrix. Developed by researchers at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (Zhejiang University), it is designed for the treatment of chronic wounds, specifically diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The formulation leverages nanotechnology to process platelets into smaller vesicles, which are intended to enhance the stability and controlled release of a concentrated cocktail of growth factors and cytokines, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). These bioactive molecules promote angiogenesis, fibroblast proliferation, and tissue remodeling, while potentially modulating the immune microenvironment of the wound to overcome the impaired healing characteristic of diabetic patients.
