Overview

Nanoquercetin is a nanoparticle-based formulation of the dietary flavonoid quercetin, designed to overcome the inherent limitations of the parent compound, such as poor aqueous solubility, low bioavailability, and rapid metabolic degradation. Quercetin is a natural polyphenolic compound known for its potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic regulatory properties. By utilizing nanoparticle delivery systems—which can include polymeric nanoparticles, solid lipid nanoparticles, or liposomes—nanoquercetin achieves enhanced cellular uptake and sustained therapeutic levels. Preclinical studies in obesity models demonstrate that nanoquercetin effectively mitigates high-fat diet-induced weight gain, improves lipid profiles, and restores genomic DNA integrity. Its mechanism of action involves the multi-targeted modulation of metabolic pathways, specifically the upregulation of adiponectin and the downregulation of leptin, alongside the preservation of hepatic and pancreatic tissue architecture.
