Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nanoscale activated carbon (also known as Nano-Slurry) is a nanoparticle sorbent designed to be added to the dialysate in hemodialysis systems. Developed by researchers at Temple University and its spinout Modular Purification Systems, it acts as an adsorbent to improve the efficiency of hemodialysis by rapidly removing uremic toxins such as creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). By incorporating nanoscale activated carbon into the dialysate, the system allows for the recirculation and reuse of dialysate, which significantly reduces water consumption for both in-center and home hemodialysis.
