Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This experimental dental formulation consists of 5% silver nanoparticles incorporated into a fluoride varnish. Developed by researchers at Suez Canal University, it is designed for the non-invasive management of deep carious lesions in permanent teeth. The silver nanoparticles provide potent antimicrobial properties by inhibiting bacterial biofilm formation and metabolic activity, while the fluoride component promotes the remineralization of the tooth structure. In clinical trials, this formulation has demonstrated efficacy similar to silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in arresting dentin caries progression, but with the potential advantage of avoiding the significant tooth staining typically associated with traditional silver-based treatments.
