Nanosized colloids of human serum albumin (often referred to as human albumin nanocolloid) is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical kit used primarily for lymphoscintigraphy, sentinel lymph node detection (particularly in breast cancer, melanoma, and head and neck cancers), and bone marrow scintigraphy. The cold kit consists of colloidal nanoparticles of human serum albumin (HSA) with a particle size typically under 80 nm. Upon reconstitution with sodium pertechnetate (99mTc) solution, it forms technetium Tc 99m albumin colloid. Following local (subcutaneous, intradermal, or peritumoral) injection, the nanocolloidal particles drain through lymphatic vessels and are phagocytosed by macrophages in the sentinel lymph nodes, allowing for precise imaging and intraoperative localization of the nodes using a gamma camera or handheld gamma probe. It was originally developed by Sorin and is marketed under brand names such as Nanocoll (GE Healthcare), Nanotop (Rotop Pharmaka), and Nanoalbumon (Medi-Radiopharma).
