Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**NanoT3** is a preclinical, podocyte-targeted nanoparticle formulation that delivers the active thyroid hormone triiodothyronine to diabetes-injured renal cells. It was developed to preserve the regenerative and renoprotective activity of thyroid hormone while reducing systemic adverse effects associated with chronic thyroid hormone exposure. In Zucker diabetic fatty rats, intraperitoneal NanoT3 treatment reduced proteinuria, hyperfiltration-associated renal dysfunction, glomerulosclerosis, tubular injury, and podocyte foot-process effacement. The program is being advanced as a potential treatment for diabetic nephropathy and diabetic cardiomyopathy, with future optimization proposed for inhaled delivery and eventual Phase 1 evaluation.
