NANOVAE is an allogenic human amniotic fluid-derived biologic product developed by Novavita Laboratory. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The therapeutic rationale is based on the regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties of amniotic fluid, which contains a complex mixture of cytokines, growth factors, and microRNAs (miRNAs). These components, such as miR-130, miR-149, and miR-320c, are thought to modulate the inflammatory response by regulating pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α) and inhibiting matrix-degrading enzymes like MMP-13 and ADAMTS5. By targeting these pathways, NANOVAE aims to alleviate pain, reduce joint stiffness, and potentially enhance chondrogenesis in patients with degenerative joint disease.
