Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Naohuan Dan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation traditionally used in China for the treatment of cognitive impairment and age-related memory loss, specifically those classified under the TCM syndromes of kidney deficiency and phlegm stasis. The formula typically comprises several herbal ingredients, including *Panax ginseng*, *Acorus tatarinowii* (Shichangpu), *Polygala tenuifolia* (Yuanzhi), and *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen). Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties; it is reported to reduce levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), a biomarker of neuronal damage, and decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6. Clinically, it has been studied for its ability to improve cognitive scores (MMSE and MoCA) and daily living activities in patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).
