Overview

Naotai Fang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by researchers at the Hu'nan University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, particularly hypertensive cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and ischemic stroke. The formula typically comprises four medicinal components: *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Scolopendra subspinipes* (Centipede), *Hirudo nipponica* (Leech), and *Rheum palmatum* (Rhubarb). Its pharmacological actions include neuroprotection, anti-inflammatory effects, and the promotion of angiogenesis. In clinical and preclinical studies, Naotai Fang has demonstrated the ability to improve cognitive function, reduce blood-brain barrier permeability, and modulate pathways related to apoptosis and oxidative stress. It is currently being evaluated in multi-center clinical trials to standardize its use in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine protocols.
