Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Naoxueshu is a traditional Chinese patent medicine formulated as an oral liquid. It is primarily used for the treatment of hemorrhagic stroke, especially spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (SICH) and hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage (HCH). The formulation contains multiple herbal and animal-derived ingredients including Astragalus membranaceus (astragalus root), Hirudo nipponica Whitman (leech), Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort (ligusticum chuanxiong), Acorus tatarinowii Schott (stone calamus), Achyranthes bidentata Blume (achyranthes), Paeonia suffruticosa Andr. (cortex moutan/peony skin), and Rheum palmatum L. (rhubarb)[3][4][5]. Its proposed mechanisms include replenishing qi, promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, anti-coagulation effects via thrombin inhibition and fibrinolysis promotion, anti-platelet aggregation activity, increasing cerebral blood flow by reducing vascular resistance and vasospasm relief[4]. Clinical studies suggest it may reduce inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α in patients with ICH or HCH[1], improve neurological function after brain hemorrhage[2][3], decrease hematoma mass effect[2], promote hematoma absorption[4], reduce edema volume around the hematoma[3], and improve patient prognosis.
