naproxcinod

Naproxcinod is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and the first in a new class called cyclooxygenase-inhibiting nitric oxide donators (CINODs). It is a derivative of naproxen, modified with a nitroxybutyl ester to enable it to act as both a cyclooxygenase inhibitor and a nitric oxide donor. This dual mechanism aims to provide effective analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects similar to traditional NSAIDs, while potentially reducing gastrointestinal and cardiovascular side effects. Naproxcinod was developed by NicOx for indications including osteoarthritis, pain, inflammatory disorders, arthritis, and more recently Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The drug has undergone extensive clinical trials but has not received FDA approval; further development is being pursued for rare diseases by Fera Pharmaceuticals[1][2][3][5][6].
