This is a combination of two agents: - **Naproxen** is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. - **Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)**—primarily eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)—are essential fatty acids found in fish oil. They exert anti-inflammatory effects by competing with arachidonic acid for incorporation into cell membranes and for binding to COX enzymes, leading to the production of less inflammatory eicosanoids. The combination has been studied primarily in the context of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Clinical trials suggest that adding omega-3 PUFAs to naproxen therapy may improve some symptoms or allow reduction in NSAID dosage[2][3]. Both agents act on similar inflammatory pathways but via different mechanisms; their combined use may have additive or synergistic effects on inflammation control[4]. However, combining these agents increases the risk of adverse effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding due to their overlapping antiplatelet/anticoagulant properties[1][7]. This combination should be used cautiously under medical supervision.
