naratriptan

Naratriptan is a small molecule pharmaceutical drug used for the acute treatment of migraine headaches in adults, with or without aura. It belongs to the triptan class (selective serotonin receptor agonists) and works primarily by selectively activating serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) 1B and 1D receptors. This action leads to vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels, inhibition of pro-inflammatory neuropeptide release, and suppression of pain signal transmission in the trigeminal nerve pathway. Naratriptan does not prevent migraines or reduce their frequency; it is intended only for aborting an active migraine attack. The drug was developed by Glaxo Wellcome (now part of GSK).
