Overview

narecovir is an investigational small-molecule antiviral being developed as an oral therapy for chronic hepatitis B virus infection, with the goal of reducing covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) transcription activity and thereby suppressing viral replication and antigen production. Early clinical data from Phase 2 studies led Chinese regulators to grant the program breakthrough therapy status, and narecovir is planned to be evaluated in tablet form, including GST-HG141 narecovir tablets, often in combination development programs with other hepatitis B agents such as GST-HG131. Detailed molecular target, exact mechanism of action at the protein level, and structural class have not yet been fully disclosed publicly, but it is positioned as a novel direct-acting antiviral aimed at achieving functional cure of chronic hepatitis B.
