NAS150 is a small molecule catalytic antioxidant and manganese-metalloporphyrin (Mn-metalloporphyrin) superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic developed by New Amsterdam Sciences. It functions by mimicking the activity of the endogenous enzyme superoxide dismutase, thereby reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and preventing the oxidation of cellular proteins and lipids. This mechanism directly mitigates oxidative stress-induced cytokine production and inflammation. NAS150 is being investigated for a variety of conditions characterized by oxidative damage and inflammation, including COVID-19, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and radiation-induced lung injury. The drug is designed for administration via subcutaneous injection or transdermal microneedle patches.
