Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nasalate is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical nasal cream developed and marketed by Care Pharmaceuticals, primarily in Australia. It is a combination medication containing chlorhexidine hydrochloride, an antiseptic agent, and phenylephrine hydrochloride, a decongestant. The product is indicated for the treatment of nasal vestibulitis (infection and inflammation of the nasal vestibule), post-operative nasal care to prevent infection and crusting, and the relief of nasal congestion associated with colds and sinusitis. Chlorhexidine provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity by disrupting microbial cell membranes, while phenylephrine acts as a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist to reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa and improve airflow.
