Overview
NasoShield is a single-dose, intranasal anthrax vaccine candidate developed to provide rapid protection against anthrax. Unlike the currently licensed injectable anthrax vaccines that require multiple doses, NasoShield is designed for ease of administration and improved logistics in emergency situations. The vaccine utilizes Altimmune’s RespirVec technology, which employs a replication-deficient adenovirus vector to stimulate both systemic and mucosal immune responses against *Bacillus anthracis* protective antigen. Clinical trials have demonstrated robust serum antibody and nasal mucosal IgA responses following intranasal administration. NasoShield is being developed with support from BARDA (Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority) as a potential countermeasure for biodefense preparedness.
