Overview
Natamycin + lactulose is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product consisting of **natamycin**, a polyene macrolide antifungal, and **lactulose**, a non-absorbable disaccharide prebiotic. It is formulated as vaginal suppositories containing 100 mg natamycin and 300 mg lactulose and is indicated for the treatment of **vulvovaginal candidiasis** in adult females[1][2][4]. **Natamycin** binds to ergosterol in the fungal plasma membrane, inhibiting ergosterol-dependent vacuolar fusion and membrane integrity, leading to fungicidal activity. **Lactulose** acts as a prebiotic, increasing vaginal lactobacilli content, which may help restore and maintain healthy vaginal flora during antifungal therapy[1]. The combination has demonstrated superior efficacy in clinical trials versus natamycin and lactulose monotherapy[1].
