Overview

natGa-DOTA-TATE is the non-radioactive, stable gallium complex of the somatostatin analog DOTA-TATE (DOTA-Tyr3-octreotate). It consists of a somatostatin receptor-targeting peptide (TATE) conjugated to the chelating agent DOTA, which is loaded with natural (stable) gallium isotopes rather than the positron-emitting Gallium-68. This 'cold' version of the radiopharmaceutical is primarily used in preclinical research and pharmacological studies as a reference standard to determine the binding affinity and selectivity for somatostatin receptors, specifically the subtype 2 (SSTR2). SSTR2 is frequently overexpressed in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), making DOTA-TATE an essential vector for both diagnostic PET imaging (when labeled with 68Ga) and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT, when labeled with 177Lu or 90Y). natGa-DOTA-TATE allows for the characterization of the chemical and biological behavior of the metal-peptide complex without the radiation hazards associated with radioactive isotopes.
