Native Banana Starch (NBS) is a dietary supplement and research compound derived from unripe (green) bananas (*Musa cavendish* AAA), characterized by its high content of resistant starch (RS). Developed primarily by researchers at the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco (UJAT) in Mexico, NBS is investigated for its metabolic benefits, particularly in the management of obesity and insulin resistance. Its mechanism of action involves the fermentation of resistant starch by gut microbiota, which produces short-chain fatty acids that modulate glucose metabolism, reduce fasting glycemia, and improve insulin sensitivity (HOMA-IR). Clinical studies have compared its efficacy to metformin in obese non-diabetic women and evaluated its effects in patients with type 2 diabetes.
