Overview

natSc-DOTA-TATE is a non-radioactive (cold) complex used as a reference standard in the development of scandium-based radiopharmaceuticals. It consists of natural scandium (natSc) chelated by DOTA (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) and conjugated to the somatostatin analogue Tyr3-octreotate (TATE). This compound is primarily utilized in preclinical research to evaluate the binding affinity for somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR2), serving as a surrogate for the radioactive isotopes Scandium-44 (a PET imaging agent) and Scandium-47 (a therapeutic beta-emitter). By demonstrating high affinity for SSTR2, which is frequently overexpressed in neuroendocrine tumors, natSc-DOTA-TATE validates the targeting capability of the scandium-DOTA-peptide platform for theranostic applications.
