Natural killer (NK) and natural killer T (NKT) cell therapy is an investigational adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by Wenxiang Wang for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The treatment involves the ex vivo expansion and activation of a combination of NK cells and NKT cells, which are then administered to the patient via intravenous infusion. NK cells are innate immune cells that can directly lyse tumor cells through a variety of activating receptors (such as NKG2D) without prior sensitization. NKT cells are a specialized subset of T cells that express both T-cell receptors and NK-cell markers; they recognize lipid antigens presented by the CD1d molecule and produce large amounts of cytokines to modulate the immune response. This dual-cell approach aims to enhance anti-tumor activity and overcome immune evasion in patients with advanced or recurrent NSCLC.
