Natural saline is an isotonic sodium chloride solution used as an inhaled placebo control in the ERASE trial (NCT06093191), a Phase 4 study conducted by Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital. In this multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial, the saline is administered via an ultrasonic nebulizer at a dose of 5ml twice daily for a duration of 12 weeks. The study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tobramycin inhalation solution, either alone or in combination with oral ciprofloxacin, for the eradication of *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* in adult patients with bronchiectasis who have a new or first isolation of the pathogen. As a placebo, the natural saline serves as an inactive comparator to establish the baseline for spontaneous clearance and to assess the therapeutic superiority of the active antimicrobial regimens.
