NAV4694 + MK-6240 is a combination of two positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agents used to detect the hallmark pathologies of Alzheimer's disease. NAV4694 (also known as AZD4694) is a fluorine-18 labeled radiotracer with high affinity for amyloid-beta plaques. MK-6240 is a fluorine-18 labeled radiotracer that selectively binds to neurofibrillary tangles composed of aggregated tau protein. This combination is utilized in clinical research, notably by Banner Health, to track longitudinal changes in brain pathology in individuals at risk for Alzheimer's disease, such as those stratified by APOE genotype. These tracers provide a non-invasive means to quantify the spatial distribution and density of amyloid and tau deposits in the living brain, facilitating the development of preventative approaches for memory and thinking problems.
