Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Navstel, also known as Next Generation Ophthalmic Irrigating Solution (NGOIS), is an intraocular irrigating solution developed by Alcon. It is a balanced salt solution (BSS) enriched with 0.015% hypromellose (HPMC), a viscoelastic polymer. Navstel is indicated for use during intraocular surgical procedures, such as cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. The addition of hypromellose provides enhanced protection to the corneal endothelium by coating the tissue and reducing mechanical trauma and oxidative stress during surgery. It also helps maintain the structural integrity and volume of the anterior chamber. The product was approved by the FDA in 2008 (NDA 022193).
