Navuzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, functioning as an immune checkpoint inhibitor. Developed by the Cancer Center of Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, it is designed to block the interaction between PD-1 on T cells and its ligands, PD-L1 and PD-L2, on tumor cells. This blockade prevents the inhibitory signaling that tumors use to evade the immune system, thereby restoring and enhancing the anti-tumor activity of T cells. Navuzumab is primarily being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and other solid tumors, either as a monotherapy or in combination with other agents.
