Overview

Nazol is a topical nasal decongestant brand, most commonly formulated with oxymetazoline hydrochloride as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. As a sympathomimetic small molecule, oxymetazoline acts as an agonist at both alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenergic receptors located within the smooth muscles of the nasal mucosal vasculature. Stimulation of these receptors induces local vasoconstriction of dilated arterioles, which reduces blood flow and edema in the nasal passages, thereby providing rapid relief from congestion. Nazol is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute rhinitis, sinusitis, and nasal congestion associated with the common cold, influenza, and allergic reactions. While the standard formulation focuses on oxymetazoline, variants like Nazol Advance include aromatic additives such as menthol, camphor, and eucalyptol to provide a cooling sensation.
