Overview

Nazovin is a nasal decongestant containing the active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride, a small molecule alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist. It is indicated for the temporary relief of nasal congestion associated with the common cold, sinusitis, and otitis media. By stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa, Nazovin induces local vasoconstriction, which reduces swelling and improves airflow. The onset of action occurs within 5 to 10 minutes, with effects lasting up to 10 hours. The product is available in adult metered-dose nasal spray (1 mg/ml) and pediatric nasal drop (0.5 mg/ml) formulations. Originally marketed by Actor Pharma, the brand is now part of the Cipla Medpro South Africa portfolio following the acquisition of Actor Pharma in 2024.
