Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NB128 (also known as NobrXiol) is an intranasal nanoparticle powder formulation of valproic acid developed using Nanomerics' proprietary Molecular Envelope Technology (MET). It is specifically designed for the treatment of treatment-resistant epilepsy. The MET platform utilizes amphiphilic polymers, such as chitosan-based GCPQ, to encapsulate small molecules into nanoparticles, facilitating direct nose-to-brain delivery via the olfactory and trigeminal nerve pathways. This approach aims to bypass the blood-brain barrier, increase cerebral bioavailability, and reduce systemic side effects typically associated with oral valproate therapy. The program has been out-licensed to Virpax Pharmaceuticals, where it is also identified by the code VRP124.
