Overview

NB2155 is an intranasally administered, replication-incompetent human adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vectored vaccine encoding the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1 variant. It is designed to induce mucosal immunity by stimulating nasal spike-specific secretory IgA (sIgA), which correlates with protection against Omicron infection. In a phase 1 clinical trial involving healthcare workers previously vaccinated with inactivated whole-virus vaccines, two doses of NB2155 given 28 days apart were safe and well tolerated, eliciting robust increases in nasal sIgA and moderate increases in serum neutralizing antibodies against multiple Omicron subvariants. The vaccine was developed at Guangzhou Medical University and Guangzhou National Laboratory, with support from Guangzhou Enbao Biomedical Technology Co., Ltd. Preliminary data suggest that NB2155 may establish an effective mucosal immune barrier against SARS-CoV-2 infection[1][3][6].
