Overview

NB31R1 is a cannabinoid-based anti-infective small molecule originally developed by Nemus Bioscience (now Skye Bioscience) through an exclusive licensing agreement with the University of Mississippi. The drug candidate, designated as UM 5070 in academic research, was specifically engineered to treat infections caused by methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA). NB31R1 utilizes the inherent antibacterial properties of cannabinoid analogs, which have demonstrated potency against Gram-positive bacteria. While the exact molecular target is often proprietary, cannabinoids in this class are generally understood to exert their effects by disrupting bacterial cell membranes or interfering with bacterial bioenergetics. Development of NB31R1 has been deprioritized as the developer shifted its strategic focus toward ophthalmic and metabolic diseases.
