Overview

NBI-1117567 is an investigational, oral small molecule drug that acts as a selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor agonist with preference for the M1 subtype but also activity at M4. It was discovered by Nxera Pharma and is being developed in partnership with Neurocrine Biosciences. The compound is designed to target symptoms of cognition in patients with neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions where psychosis may be present. Muscarinic receptors are critical for brain signaling; specifically, the M1 receptor has been validated as a potential drug target for cognitive impairment and the M4 receptor for psychosis. As of May 2024, NBI-1117567 is undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials to evaluate its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in healthy adults.
