NBI-6024 is an altered peptide ligand (APL) corresponding to the 9–23 amino acid region of the insulin B chain, designed to modulate immune responses in type 1 diabetes. It specifically targets inflammatory interferon-gamma-producing T helper (Th1) lymphocytes that recognize this epitope in type 1 diabetic patients. The drug aims to preserve beta-cell function and endogenous insulin production by inducing a regulatory immune response, potentially delaying or preventing further beta-islet cell destruction. Developed as a protein-based therapy, it was investigated primarily for early intervention in autoimmune diabetes but did not demonstrate efficacy in preserving beta-cell function during clinical trials[1][2][3][5][6].
