NBT-101 is a therapeutic nanorobot developed by Nanobots Therapeutics for the treatment of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Built on the proprietary MotionTx platform, NBT-101 consists of mesoporous silica-based nanoparticles (approximately 450 nm in diameter) that are functionalized with the enzyme urease. These nanorobots utilize urea present in urine as a fuel source, catalyzing it to generate ammonia and carbon dioxide, which provides autonomous propulsion. This active motion enables the nanorobots to navigate the bladder environment and penetrate tumor tissue more effectively than passive diffusion-based therapies. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that NBT-101 can achieve an eightfold increase in tumor accumulation compared to passive nanoparticles and significant tumor reduction when loaded with therapeutic agents such as iodine-131.
