Overview

NBTX-001 is a drug-device combination specifically designed to deliver xenon gas through a proprietary portable inhalation device. It functions as an NMDA receptor antagonist, with xenon atoms interacting with aromatic amino-acid residues on NMDA receptors to provide highly specific and controllable antagonism. The drug also blocks AMPA, nACh (α4β2), 5-HT3, plasma membrane Ca2+ ATPase and increases inhibitory neurotransmission by stimulating GlyR1 and TREK-1 potassium channel. It has been shown to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines and increase pro-survival factors. NBTX-001 is being developed primarily for psychiatric disorders, with the most advanced development in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and panic disorder.
