Overview
NC-2500 is a small molecule xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) inhibitor developed by Nippon Chemiphar for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout. It is characterized by its ability to lower serum urate levels gradually, which may minimize the risk of acute gout flares during the start of treatment. The drug is primarily excreted through non-renal pathways, potentially offering a favorable safety profile for patients with renal impairment. Nippon Chemiphar is also investigating NC-2500 for neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. The compound completed Phase 1 trials in 2017 and was licensed to a Chinese partner in 2023 for development in China.
