NCB-SLO is a preclinical-stage transdermal patch being developed by Biotts for the treatment of rare diseases, specifically Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS). Utilizing Biotts' proprietary MTC-Y (Multicomponent Transport System) technology, the patch is designed to deliver therapeutic agents—likely cholesterol—directly through the skin. SLOS is a genetic metabolic disorder characterized by a deficiency in the enzyme 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR7), resulting in impaired cholesterol synthesis and the accumulation of toxic precursors. The transdermal delivery approach aims to provide a more consistent and convenient alternative to high-dose oral cholesterol supplementation, which is the current standard of care, by bypassing the gastrointestinal tract and potentially improving patient compliance.
