NCP-IL22BP mRNA is an intratumorally administered mRNA-based therapeutic developed by West China Hospital. It encodes the Interleukin-22 binding protein (IL-22BP), a natural soluble decoy receptor that neutralizes Interleukin-22 (IL-22). IL-22 is a cytokine often upregulated in the tumor microenvironment that promotes tumor cell proliferation, survival, and pro-tumorigenic inflammation. By delivering mRNA encoding IL-22BP directly into the tumor, the therapy aims to inhibit IL-22 signaling, thereby suppressing tumor growth and potentially enhancing anti-tumor immune responses. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for advanced, treatment-refractory solid tumors, including soft tissue sarcoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma.
