Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NCPC001 is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody developed by NCPC New Drug Research & Development, a subsidiary of North China Pharmaceutical Group. It is designed as a biosimilar to bevacizumab, targeting vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). By binding to VEGF-A, NCPC001 inhibits the interaction with its receptors, VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2, thereby suppressing the signaling pathways that lead to angiogenesis and increased vascular permeability. While bevacizumab is traditionally used in oncology, NCPC001 is being specifically evaluated for ophthalmic indications, including neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). In these conditions, the overproduction of VEGF leads to the growth of abnormal, leaky blood vessels in the retina; NCPC001 aims to prevent this process, thereby reducing retinal edema and preserving or improving vision. The drug is typically administered via intravitreal injection for ophthalmic use and has already received approval in China for oncology indications such as metastatic colorectal cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.
